To Hell and Back Training Programs

The To Hell and Back Training Programs of the People’s Burn Foundation were created to provide a training tool to effectively educate on the reality of burn injuries and how to prevent them. Developed through funding from the US Department of Homeland Security, these programs are distributed free of charge.

The To Hell and Back Fire Fighter training programs target the types of burn injuries fire fighters sustain, how these burn injuries can be prevented, and how burn severity can be diminished by properly using personal protection equipment, breathing apparatus, and following appropriate OSHA and National Fire Protection Association standards. The standard curriculum for training fire fighters does not include education on burns injuries. The THB training programs are used by fire departments across the United States and Canada and, in certain states, THB I and II are legislated as mandatory education for Firefighter I and II classes (required to become a career or volunteer firefighter) and Fire Officer I and II classes for career firefighters.

THB training should be followed in sequential order. No one should view THBII prior to THBI or the information will not be understood. Each program is supplemented with delivery guidelines, instructor outlines and pre/post test materials.
